Yes! A skate helmet has a rounder shape and covers more of the back of your head - important when falling backwards. A bicycle helmet is more elongated with more ventilation. For skating, scooting and skateboarding, I always recommend a real skate helmet.

Replace your helmet after a hard fall - even if you don't see any damage. The protective material may be damaged. Without falls, a helmet will last about 3-5 years. Check regularly for cracks or wear and tear.
