Frequently asked questions about inline skates
Most children can learn to rollerblade from 4-5 years old, as soon as they can cycle without training wheels. The smallest Champz inline skates start at size 26-29. Is your child younger or still unsure of balance? Then consider rollerblades first - they are more stable due to the 4 wheels side by side.
On average 2-3 seasons. The rollerblades are adjustable in 4 sizes and children's feet grow about 2 sizes per year. The aluminium frame and bearings last for years - many parents tell me the rollerblades are still fine for a younger sibling!
The difference is in the quality. Cheap rollerblades have plastic frames that flex, bad bearings that bump, and straps that come off. Champz has aluminium frames, ABEC-7/9 bearings, and a triple-lock closure that stays firmly in place. Your child learns faster and safer!
Minimum: knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards. Champz protection sets include all three. A helmet is also wise, especially for novice skaters. The Champz protectors match the skates in colour - your child will really want to wear them!
Start on a flat, smooth surface with no traffic (empty car park, schoolyard). First let your child practise the movement without rollerblades: feet in a V, small steps. Provide protection so that falling is not scary. Most children get the hang of it after 3-5 practices!
Yes, the hardboot beginner inline skates are slightly smaller because the shell is more solid and rigid. If in doubt, always choose the larger size group. Does your child wear shoe size 29? Then choose size 30-33 instead of 26-29. The rollerblades are adjustable in 4 sizes, so even if they are a bit too big now, your child will grow into them quickly. Feel free to email me your child's foot length and I will give personal advice!
It depends on your child's experience. Beginner (Hardboot): Sturdy hard shell that provides good ankle support. Perfect if your child has never skated before - gives extra stability and confidence. Advanced (Semi-Softboot): Softer shoe with more flex, more comfortable for longer rides. With ABEC-7 bearings, your child rolls more smoothly. Choose this if your child can already rollerblade. Pro (ABEC-9): Premium bearings for maximum speed, ideal for children who can already skate well and want more speed. In doubt? Start with Beginner - most parents choose this!
